About
- The DCS Groenpunt Choral Choristers was established during 2006 as part of Special Programmes Initiative been extended to the surrounding local community members (Deneysville, Orangeville and Sasolburg) who are actively involved as apart of 'Rehabilitation through music' project as a societal responsibility through the Choral Music work by DCS officials and as a result of public interest and participation in that programme which has resulted in excellent results since its inception.
- Groenpunt Choir is based at Groenpunt Management Area; Area Commissioner Mr. Sibeko V.S and under the Free State and Northern Cape Region: Me. Moodley S
- Groenpunt has been participating in the external Eisteddfods arranging championships of choral music outside of the Departmental Eisteddfod 'Corsecma'. it has been participating successfully from 2012 to date.
- The Choir has won the Lecma Championship in the very same year of its participation in 2012 in the Development Category under the conductorship of its late prominent Conductor: Mr. Khantse 'Mozolo' Hoeane.
- Continued in the campaign to win and put Department: Correctional Services on the map to win the Lengau Choral Music Association (LECMA) Standard Category in 2016, which gave the choir an automatic entry in the Standard Lesotho: African Melody Festival (SLBiAFM) arranged in the Kingdom of Lesotho as per the MOU between Lecma in Free-Sate and Choral Music Federation of Lesotho (CMFL) in Lesotho.
- Initiatives has been extended as cited above to the surrounding local community members ( Deneysville, Orangeville, Sasolburg, Sebokeng, Sharpeville) who are actively involved as part of the second "Community involvement drive through music". The involvement of community members and the interest they have, also had a contribution that has assisted in yielding positive results going forward.
- in 2017 the choir participated successfully in the SLB-AMF arranged in Lesotho by winning 1st Position on two (02) songs and scooping the overall position 1 for Standard Category.
- in June 2018 the Choir Participated in the Free-State: Department of Sports, Arts, Culture & Recreation (DSACR) Championships and the choir managed to get an overall Position 2 in the Standard Category, and best conductor of the day.
